Green is good. As people are becoming more aware of their impact on the environment, how and where they are choosing to holiday is changing, and this can only be a positive thing for the planet.
While just a short while ago eco accommodation might have been considered something of a niche trend, the facts are that it’s becoming more and more widespread, as tourists are resoundingly riding the growing wave of global environmental awareness. According to a report done by booking.com in 2017 – 65% of global travellers expressed a desire to stay in eco-friendly or “green” accommodation. Subsequent years have done nothing to dampen that enthusiasm, with eco accommodation consistently outranking other sectors in the tourism and hospitality industry. In a recent article in the Australian newspaper titled ‘Green With Energy’ a spotlight was shone on some of the resorts, hotels and accommodation sites around Australia who are doing great things to increase sustainability and provide accommodation without compromising the planet’s precious resources.
It comes as no surprise that our very own Eco Beach Resort made the list, with particular notice paid to our extensive hybrid solar system. We love mentions like this as it confirms that our low-tech, low impact, luxury accommodation ethos is continuing to bear fruit. We also recently received more recognition in Australian Traveller Magazine, making their top six eco-friendly winter stays. But just as heartening was seeing two more of our clients get a guernsey – these being Swell Lodge on Christmas Island and Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort.
Eco Beach Resort, Broome.
Swell Lodge made the list due to their extensive use of environmentally friendly measures evident in their buildings and in the daily running of the resort. Their list of eco-friendly decisions is impressive, their high-output ceiling fans that remove the need for air conditioning, their solar hot water system, modern odourless composting toilets, and grey water filtration system, is only the start. See their website to see the full extent of how deep their eco blood runs. Their glass-fronted, solar-powered, luxurious and totally secluded eco resort is a shining example of how tourism and the environment can co-exist harmoniously.
Lady Elliot Island is a magical place and the Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort’s owners see themselves as mere ‘custodians’ of the island. This figures into how they choose to run their resort, with their intention being to enable the pristine environment to be “preserved as nature intended, while giving visitors the opportunity to experience it in an economically and ecologically viable way.” That’s why when their tired accommodation was in need of renovation, they sought out our expertise to come up with a glamping tent solution that allowed the resort to maintain room capacity. A perfect alignment of the their bold eco philosophy and our expertise.
Concrete free Eco Anchor foundations
With all of these resorts, Eco Structures was chosen as the preferred supplier, due to our eco-friendly design experience. A significant part of that design is our Eco Anchor Foundations Systems.
While most eco tents are considerably more environmentally friendly than existing structures, our eco tents feature an innovative design that puts them ahead of the pack. Our Eco Anchors are environmental protectors, don’t require concrete and are especially ideal for remote locations. Because of our Eco Anchor system, our eco tents can be assembled and disassembled in as little as two days. A special characteristic of the Eco Anchor system is how it allows resort owners to erect them in places previously considered unsuitable, due to difficult terrain or undulating environments. They also cause minimal impact to the ground surface, so natural flora can be retained. That’s why our glamping tents are finding a growing market all across Australia as well as the globe. And we can even airlift them in ‘Kit Form’ into highly remote and environmentally sensitive locations.
